WebP to PNG Converter

Pick a .webp image and get a PNG you can open in Photoshop, Figma or any older editor. The converted file appears next to the original, and a slider lets you scale the output size. Conversion runs in your browser, and the tool does not upload your image.

Drag and drop a WebP image here

or click to browse (.webp files up to 20 MB)

Your image is converted in your browser and is not uploaded by this tool.

Why use this tool?

Why use this tool?

WebP is great for fast websites, but many desktop editors, print workflows and older apps still expect PNG. This tool converts one WebP at a time, keeps transparent areas transparent, and shows the file size before you download, so you know what you are getting.

How to use it

How to use it

  1. Step 1

    Add your WebP file

Drag a .webp image onto the upload area or click it to choose a file from your device.
  2. Step 2

    Check the preview

The original and the PNG appear side by side with their sizes in KB.
  3. Step 3

    Set the output quality

Keep it at 100% for the original dimensions, or lower the slider to scale the image down.
  4. Step 4

    Download the PNG

Click Download PNG. Use Start over if you want to convert another image.

What this converter does

You add a single WebP file, and the tool redraws it on a browser canvas and saves the canvas as a PNG. The original and the PNG are shown side by side, each with its file size in KB. When you are happy with the preview, you download the PNG. The download keeps your file name and only changes the extension from .webp to .png.

Why convert WebP to PNG

The usual reason is compatibility. Some editors, CMS uploaders, presentation tools and print services do not accept WebP, while PNG opens almost everywhere. PNG is also lossless, so once you have the PNG you can edit and re-save it without adding new compression artifacts. If you only need a quick way to convert WebP to PNG for one image, you can do it here without installing anything.

How the quality slider really works

The slider runs from 10% to 100% and defaults to 100%. It does not change a compression setting, because PNG has none. Instead it scales the width and height of the image by that percentage. At 100% the PNG keeps the original pixel dimensions. At 50% both sides are halved, so the picture has a quarter of the pixels and the file is usually much smaller. Use 100% when you want WebP to PNG at high quality, and a lower value when you need a small image for an upload limit.

Live preview and size comparison

The PNG is regenerated a moment after you stop moving the slider, and the PNG size updates with it. A percentage next to the size appears only when the PNG is smaller than the original WebP. At 100% that often will not happen: PNG is lossless, and a lossy WebP is usually smaller than the PNG made from it. This is normal, not an error.

Transparency

The canvas is cleared before the image is drawn, so transparent pixels in your WebP stay transparent in the PNG. Logos, icons and cut-out product photos keep their see-through background. Check the preview on a dark and a light page if edges matter to you.

WebP vs PNG: which one to use

Is WebP better than PNG? It depends on the job. WebP is designed for the web and usually gives smaller files for photos and graphics, which helps page speed. PNG is larger but lossless and supported by nearly every editor and operating system, which makes it a safer format for editing, archiving and sharing. When people compare WebP vs PNG quality, the real difference is that a PNG made from a lossy WebP cannot restore detail the WebP already discarded. It only stops further loss.

Features explained

Side-by-side preview

Shows the original WebP and the converted PNG together with their sizes in KB. This helps you spot a wrong size or a bad crop before downloading. The preview boxes are small, so fine detail is easier to judge after you open the downloaded file.

Output quality slider (10% to 100%)

Scales the image dimensions. It is useful when you need a smaller PNG, but lower values reduce resolution and cannot be undone except by moving the slider back up.

Automatic re-conversion

Moving the slider reconverts the image without pressing a button. While it works, the PNG preview shows a converting message.

Drag and drop or click to browse

Drop a .webp file on the upload area or click it to open the file picker. The picker is set to WebP files.

Manual download

Nothing downloads by itself. You click Download PNG when you are ready, and the file is saved with the original name and a .png extension.

Start over

Clears the current image, the preview and the slider, so you can convert a different file.

What can you use it for?

Editing in design software

Open a WebP you saved from a website in an editor that only supports PNG.

Logos and icons with transparency

Turn a transparent WebP logo into a PNG for slides, documents or app mockups.

Upload forms that reject WebP

Convert an image before attaching it to a form, marketplace listing or CMS that accepts PNG but not WebP.

Smaller image for an upload limit

Lower the slider to shrink the dimensions until the PNG fits the size you need.

Benefits

  • Works without installing software or creating an account.
  • Shows the result and its size before you download.
  • Keeps transparent areas transparent.
  • Lets you shrink the pixel dimensions when file size matters.

Limitations

  • One file per conversion. To convert another image, use Start over.
  • Files over 20 MB are rejected, and so are files that are not WebP.
  • The slider changes dimensions, not compression. Values below 100% lower the resolution.
  • The PNG can be larger than the original WebP, especially at 100%.
  • The tool produces one still PNG. Animation is not preserved.
  • Very large images are processed on the main browser thread, so the page may feel slow for a moment.
  • There is no cancel button and no progress bar.

File checks

Before conversion the tool checks that the file is a WebP, by type or by the .webp extension, and that it is no larger than 20 MB. A file that fails either check is not converted, and an error message explains why.

Privacy

The file you choose is read and converted by your browser. We checked the tool code and it makes no network request with your image, so the tool does not upload it. The page itself may still load site-wide scripts such as analytics or ads, which are separate from the converter.

Tips

  • Keep the slider at 100% if the PNG will be edited or printed.
  • If the PNG is too big, lower the slider in small steps and watch the size.
  • Keep your original WebP. A PNG made from it cannot bring back detail the WebP had already lost.
  • If a file is rejected, check that it really is .webp and under 20 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Is this WebP to PNG converter free?

Yes. You can use it without creating an account, and the page does not ask for an email before converting.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

The converter runs in your browser, and the tool code makes no network request with your image. Site-wide scripts on the page, such as analytics, are not part of the converter.

Will the PNG keep the original resolution?

Yes, at 100% output quality the PNG has the same width and height as the WebP. Lower slider values reduce both dimensions by that percentage.

Does the quality slider compress the PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so the slider scales the image size instead. A smaller image means fewer pixels and usually a smaller file.

Why is my PNG bigger than my WebP?

WebP is often compressed more tightly than PNG. A lossless PNG made from it can be larger, especially for photos. Lower the slider if you need a smaller file.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent areas in the WebP stay transparent in the PNG.

Can I convert several WebP files at once?

No. The tool handles one file at a time. Click Start over to load another image.

What is the maximum file size?

Each file can be up to 20 MB. Larger files are rejected with an error message.

Does it work on a phone?

It runs in the browser, so it can be used on phones and tablets as well as computers. Very large images may be slower on older devices.
