SutonnyMJ to Unicode Converter

Paste text that was typed in SutonnyMJ or another Bijoy-layout font, and the Unicode Bangla version appears next to it. The conversion runs in your browser and the tool does not upload your text.

Your text is converted in your browser and is not uploaded by this tool.

Why use this tool?

Why use this tool?

SutonnyMJ does not store Bangla letters. It stores ordinary English characters and relies on the font to draw them as Bangla. Without the font installed, a word like "evsjv" shows up as meaningless Latin text, and it cannot be searched, edited properly or shown on most websites and phones. Unicode fixes that, because the text is stored as real Bangla characters that any modern app can read.

How to use it

How to use it

  1. Step 1

    Copy your SutonnyMJ text

Select the Bangla text in your Word file, PDF or web page and copy it. Avoid selecting English words or numbers.
  2. Step 2

Paste it into the left box

Paste the text into the SutonnyMJ text box. The Unicode version appears in the right box as soon as the text arrives.
  3. Step 3

    Check the result

Read the Unicode text, paying attention to conjuncts, ো and ৌ, and রেফ.
  4. Step 4

    Copy the Unicode text

Click Copy Unicode and paste the result where you need it. Click Clear to start with new text.

What this converter does

Type or paste SutonnyMJ text into the left box and the right box shows the same text in Unicode Bangla. For example, "evsjv" becomes "বাংলা" and "Avwg" becomes "আমি". There is no Convert button. The result updates every time the left box changes, and the right box is read-only so you only copy from it.

How the conversion works

The converter works in three steps. First, it corrects a few common typing slips, such as a vowel sign typed twice. Second, it replaces each SutonnyMJ character with its Unicode Bangla equivalent, including the many single symbols that stand for conjuncts like ক্ষ or ন্ত. Two-letter combinations such as "Av" for আ are handled before single characters. Third, it reorders the result. Bijoy typing puts ি, ে and ৈ before the consonant and places রেফ after it, while Unicode expects ি, ে and ৈ after the consonant and রেফ before it. This step also joins ে with া into ো, and moves চন্দ্রবিন্দু to the correct position after a vowel sign.

Features explained

Result updates as you type or paste

The output box is recalculated whenever the input changes, so you can fix a word and see the result change straight away. The work happens on the page itself, so a very large paste can make the page feel slower.

Conjuncts, vowel signs and রেফ

Conjunct glyphs are expanded into the correct consonant + হসন্ত sequences, and vowel signs and রেফ are moved into Unicode order. This is what turns scrambled-looking output into text that reads correctly. Unusual or rare conjuncts can still come out wrong, so proofread the result.

Copy button

Copy Unicode puts the output on your clipboard and shows "Copied!" for about two seconds. It is disabled while the output is empty. If your browser blocks clipboard access, nothing happens, so select the output text and copy it manually.

Clear button

Clear empties both boxes and resets the copy message, so you can start the next passage. It is disabled while the input box is empty.

Read-only Unicode output

The output box cannot be edited. If you need to correct something, make the change in the converted text after pasting it into your document, or fix the source and convert again.

What can you use it for?

Old Word documents

Copy text from a document typed years ago in SutonnyMJ and convert it so it can be edited in a Unicode-based editor.

Putting old text on a website

Web pages and CMS editors expect Unicode. Converting first avoids pages full of Latin-looking symbols.

Search and archiving

Legacy text cannot be searched by Bangla words. Unicode text can, which helps when you are building an archive or a database.

Sharing on phones and social media

Most phones and apps do not have SutonnyMJ. Unicode text shows up correctly without any font installation.

Checking what a legacy file contains

If you receive a file that shows odd symbols, converting the pasted text tells you quickly what it says.

Benefits

  • Turns SutonnyMJ text into searchable, editable Unicode Bangla.
  • No file upload and no account step in the tool.
  • Handles conjuncts, vowel sign order and রেফ, not just letter-by-letter replacement.
  • Shows the result next to the source so you can compare as you go.

Limitations

  • Only text can be converted. There is no file upload, so Word, PDF or web content has to be copied and pasted.
  • Scanned PDFs and images have no selectable text, and the tool has no OCR.
  • Everything in the left box is treated as SutonnyMJ. English words, digits and symbols such as & are converted too (digits become Bangla digits, and & becomes a হসন্ত), so convert Bangla-only passages.
  • The conversion is rule-based. Rare conjuncts or unusual typing can come out wrong, so read through the result.
  • The tool is built around SutonnyMJ. Other Bijoy-layout fonts may convert correctly, but this has not been verified, so check the output.
  • The input box asks for the SutonnyMJ font. If it is not installed on your device, the input looks like random symbols, but the Unicode output is not affected.
  • There is no download button, and a blocked clipboard gives no error message.
  • Very long text is processed on the page itself and can make typing in the box slower.

What the tool does and does not do

The tool does not ask you to sign in and does not use browser storage to keep your text. Closing or reloading the page clears the boxes. For confidential documents, you are still responsible for where you paste the converted result.

Privacy

The converter is JavaScript that runs inside your browser. No network request was found in the tool code, so the text you paste is not sent anywhere by the tool. This statement covers the converter only. It does not cover scripts that the rest of the website may load, such as analytics or ads.

Tips

  • Copy only the Bangla parts. Keep English words, phone numbers and URLs out of the box, or restore them afterwards.
  • Convert long documents in sections. It is easier to proofread and easier on the browser.
  • Check conjuncts, ো and ৌ, and রেফ first when you proofread, since these involve the most reordering.
  • Keep the original file until you have checked the converted text.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

The converter itself does not upload it. The conversion runs in your browser, and no network request was found in the tool code. Scripts elsewhere on the site, such as analytics, are separate from the converter.

Why does the text I paste look like random symbols?

SutonnyMJ stores English characters and uses a font to draw them as Bangla. Without that font on your device, you see the raw characters. This does not matter here, because the converter reads the characters themselves.

Do I need the SutonnyMJ font installed?

No. You only need it if you want the left box to show readable Bangla while you check the source. The Unicode result looks the same either way.

Can I upload a Word file or PDF directly?

No. The tool only accepts text. Open the file, copy the Bangla text and paste it into the box. A scanned PDF has no text to copy, and this tool does not do OCR.

Why did my English words and numbers change?

The converter treats every character in the left box as SutonnyMJ. Letters in English words become Bangla characters, digits become Bangla digits, and & becomes a হসন্ত. Paste Bangla-only passages and add English text back afterwards.

Does it work for Bijoy Classic or other Bijoy fonts?

The converter is built around SutonnyMJ. Fonts that use the same Bijoy key layout may convert correctly, but this has not been verified. Test with a short sample and proofread the output.

Is there a limit on how much text I can convert?

The tool does not set a limit. Because it converts on the page every time the text changes, a very large paste can make the page slower. Converting in sections works better.

A conjunct or vowel sign came out wrong. What should I do?

Correct it in the converted text. The converter follows fixed rules and will not catch every unusual combination. Check the source text too, as typing mistakes in the original are carried over.
